Vino Chinato is a style of fortified and aromatized wine from Piedmont in Northern Italy. Chinato refers to “China” or quinine which is the main bittering agent. Barolo Chinato is the best known and noblest example of the style as it’s made from DOCG wine from that prestigious region. 

This Chinato is made from 100% Langhe Nebbiolo wine infused with cinchona, wormwood, gentian, elderflower, rhubarb, bay leaves, chamomile, marjoram, cinnamon, vanilla, coriander, rose, and nutmeg. The wine is sourced from the same region and made from the same grapes as Barolo but at a fraction of the price. It’s a bit like Vermouth but more bitter and less sweet than your average sweet vermouth. Can be enjoyed with chocolate desserts or blue cheese, or used in cocktail applications where sweet vermouth is called for.
